Bringing statues to life: Victoria and Albert

1819-1901 and 1819-1861

Victoria’s reign of 63 years saw the expansion of the British Empire, leading to her adopting the title Empress of India. She had nine children with Albert, her cousin; after his death she wore black for the rest of her life.

The legend that Prince Albert gave his name to the eponymous genital piercing in order to conceal his large penis appears to be an urban myth.
